Originated in 1994 as an out-reach of Victory Christian Fellowship church in New Castle, Delaware, “Blessings Dressings and More” reaches beyond its four walls to help local people in a big way. This ministry provides food, clothing, and household items to people in transition, crisis, and need within New Castle and the surrounding communities. Staffed by 30 volunteers each month, Blessings Dressings and More are open every Saturday. After hours assistance is available in emergency cases and for individuals from crisis referrals.

Blessings, Dressings and More distributes food and clothing to and average of 850 to 1,000 households per month or 42,000 to 50,000 people every year. Between 2001 and 2004, this outreach serviced approximately 192,000 individuals. Each month Blessings, Dressings and More spends approximately $30,000 to $32,000 on food, which Victory Christian Fellowship obtains with funds that the church collects for its food closet. To purchase additional food, the ministry receives grants through the Food Bank of Delaware from the state of Delaware and Shop Rite, Amazing Grace Ministries also donates a truckload of food weekly for Blessings, Dressings and More.

42,000-50,000 people a year are blessed by this ministry

To help those in needs further, the ministry sponsors special events involving the community, agencies, and public and private organizations. Additionally, Blessings, Dressings and More sponsors programs such as the Emergency Food Closet, holiday food baskets the Senior Programs, the Return to Work Program, and the community weekly food distribution. The Senior Program provides groceries on a monthly basis for between 100 and 160 senior citizens. The Return to Work Program supplies appropriate clothing to individuals in the interviewing process. In 2001 and 2002, this outreach also coordinated and sponsored two job fairs in conjunction with the state’s Welfare to
Work program. More then 25 major employers participated each year in these fairs, which the church opened to the public.

Numerous agencies and companies utilize Blessings, Dressings and More as a resource for referrals. These include the Red Cross, the Food Bank of Delaware, Catholic Charities, local shelters, The Salvation Army, Latin Community Center, Christiana Hospital, Discover Card, Child Inc, and State of Delaware Health and Social Services, Delaware Help Line, Delaware Correctional; Department and
Department of Probation and Parole.
